Who we are

Townhouse Ceramics Studio & Gallery will be a shared ceramic workspace and creative hub, based in a Georgian townhouse in the heart of Bishop’s Stortford. Designed for potters, sculptors, and makers, the studio will offer a professionally equipped environment for developing skills, exploring ideas, and building community.

Founded by friends and ceramicists with varied backgrounds and a shared belief in the value of making, Townhouse will offer something a little different; a space that supports focused practice, encourages experimentation, and fosters creative exchange.

Our goal is to build a thriving membership studio, a place where committed makers can work regularly, share knowledge, and be part of a supportive and evolving community. Alongside this, we’ll run regular classes for all levels, host visiting artists, and offer workshops exploring materials, techniques, and new ways of thinking through clay.

At the heart of it all is a commitment to skill, exploration, and collaboration. Townhouse will be a place to grow your practice, meet others, and be part of something shared.

Our Team

Meet Lindsey Co-Founder

After a long career in IT and data, Lindsey made the leap into clay and recently completed the two-year Ceramics Diploma at City Lit in London. That mix of technical precision and creative exploration now shapes her approach both as a maker and as part of the team building Townhouse.

As the studio’s resident tech expert, Lindsey sets up the systems behind the scenes, but her real passion lies in the making. Her ceramic practice focuses on form, proportion, and balance, combining careful precision with an experimental approach.

At Townhouse, Lindsey will be teaching and making, sharing skills with members, and helping to grow the supportive, creative community at the heart of the studio.

Meet Ali

Ali’s journey with clay began over seven years ago, inspired by the teaching and guidance of a master potter. Since then, she has developed a distinctive style, exhibiting highly commended work that reflects both technical skill and creative depth.

With a background in teaching, Ali brings warmth, patience, and a real passion for helping others unlock their creativity. Her love for clay spans wheel throwing, hand building, and especially sculptural forms. For Ali, pottery is more than technique—it’s transformation. She finds joy in watching clay evolve into forms that capture thought, movement, and expression.

At Townhouse, Ali will be teaching beginner classes, blending practical instruction with mindfulness and creating a welcoming community built on shared learning and inspiration.

Meet Alex

Alex is part of the Townhouse team, bringing her passion for art to our light-filled upstairs space. She began watercolour painting six years ago and now works regularly in paint, pen, ink, and coloured pencils. Alongside her own practice, Alex has attended many courses and masterclasses across the UK and Europe, steadily building her knowledge and skills.

With this experience, Alex will help us attract talented artists to run workshops and masterclasses, supporting the growth of our wider programme. Her enthusiasm for both making and learning ensures that Townhouse offers a rich mix of opportunities in painting, drawing, and hand building with clay. Alex is committed to creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for everyone who comes through our doors.
