Courses
Our Courses
Our general ceramics classes for beginners and improvers, covering a mix of techniques to give you a solid, well-rounded foundation in working with clay. As the studio grows, we’ll introduce dedicated throwing and handbuilding courses, allowing you to focus more deeply on your preferred approach.
Alongside our regular courses, we plan to offer one-off workshops exploring specific skills, projects, and decorative techniques. These sessions are ideal if you’d like to try something new or build on skills you already have.
In addition, we run a programme of ceramics masterclasses with renowned potters, offering the opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners and gain insight into different approaches, techniques, and ways of working. A number of these masterclasses are already scheduled, with more planned as the programme develops.
Make a Bowl or Platter – Pottery Taster Session
Our pottery taster sessions are a relaxed, hands-on introduction to working with clay. In this 1.5-hour session, you’ll make a finished piece, such as a bowl or platter, using slab-building and press or slump moulds.
You’ll be shown how to prepare and roll clay, shape your form, and add texture or simple decoration. At the end of the session, you’ll choose a glaze and we’ll take care of firing and finishing your piece, ready for collection a few weeks later.
These sessions run in small groups and are perfect if you’re curious about ceramics but not ready to commit to a longer course.
£50 per person, including all materials and firing. No experience needed.
Wheel Throwing – 4-Week Course
A focused introduction to throwing on the pottery wheel, suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to build confidence and improve their technique.
Across four weekly sessions, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing, including centring clay, opening, pulling up walls, and shaping simple forms such as cylinders and bowls. You’ll also be introduced to trimming and refining your work at the leather-hard stage.
With a small class size and plenty of individual guidance, there’s time to practise, repeat, and build control. The emphasis is on developing technique and understanding how clay responds on the wheel, rather than rushing towards finished pieces.
This course is ideal if you’d like to focus specifically on wheel work, whether you’re new to pottery or want structured practice to strengthen your skills.
Beginners & Improvers Ceramics – 6-Week Course
A friendly, hands-on introduction to ceramics for complete beginners and those with some experience who want to build confidence and develop their skills.
Across six weekly sessions, you’ll learn core techniques including handbuilding, throwing on the wheel, trimming, and basic surface decoration. You’ll have the opportunity to make a range of functional and decorative pieces, with guidance throughout and plenty of time to practise.
This course is ideal if you want a broad grounding in ceramics before specialising, or if you’re returning to clay and want to refresh and extend your skills.
